PROPERTY
DETAILS & DIRECTIONS: The event is held
on a 110,000 Acre property called Cootawundi Station.
Cobb
& Co Coaches would have once taken you there. Cootawundi was
the end of the coach line and the old 14 room coach house ruins
remain. The building was occupied by the property owners until
some 70 years ago when it was devastated by flooding. Back then
labour was cheap and easy to get but materials were scarce. The
roof materials were taken and
used elsewhere on the farm.
The
gate to Cootawundi is 22km South of White Cliffs on the White
Cliffs – Wilcannia Rd. The
gate is along side a large shearing shed and where the road crosses
a bridge. There is just one bridge on this road and it crosses
the Bunker Creek at this point. GPS reference is :
694714 / 6563962 54J
AGD66.
Head
West along the drive and follow the signs to the base camp.
Melbournians
should travel via Deniliquin, Hay, Ivanhoe and Wilcannia – (10
hours from Melb) and that’s about what it takes to get to Wanangatta
Station in the high country. The Ivanhoe to Wilcannia Hwy is approx.
140km of dirt. A very good dirt road, trucks, etc no problems.
Sydney
siders should travel via Dubbo, Nyngan, Cobar and Wilcannia.
SE
Queenslanders should take the Newell to Gilgandra then head west
to Nyngan,Cobar and Wilcannia.
Nth
Queenslanders have a bit of cross country from St George to Bourke
then Wilcannia.
WA
and Adelaide crews should travel via Broken Hill and Wilcannia.
Flights
from Melbourne to White Cliffs are also organised by Navrun, ring
or email us for further details.
FUEL: Cootawundi is 50k south
of White Cliffs. You may get away with just 2 full tanks of fuel
for the entire event, but if not you may leave fuel at camp or
go into town for refueling, however fuel is available to purchase
at base camp, premium and diesel. LPG is at Wilcannia (100k's
away).
ACCOMODATION AND REPAIRS:
Silver City 4WD in Broken Hill are the
closest dedicated and equipped workshop. (200+ k's away) Dennis,
Julie and Jonathan Oliver are looking forward to the event. The
truck will be at Cootawundi spectating. If/when needed, he will
transport cars back to BH. There will be $100 donation to Silver
City 4wd if you need to use their facilities. No point penalty
(Dam site cheaper than an hourly rate). Outside assistance is
permitted at Cliffhanger. You may take a spare car or trailer
full of parts and spectator friends may help you rebuild your
rig over night. Need to speak to the guys at Silver City 4wd. Tel:
08 8087 9250 or email: sc4wd@bigpond.net.au
There are basic workshop facilities in White Cliffs and Wilcannia
but none as understanding as Silver City. The
property owners also have basic facilities, some spares and a
welder so most basic repairs can be done there. We can also accomodate
speedy service by using our aeroplane service we will have stationed
at the event.

to a twin bed flat with Dennis and Julie that allows entry into
the hotel after hours, so that anyone stuck at SC4WD for any length
